Lynn Weingarten Author Interview

I recently recieved a copy of The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers by Lynn Weingarten for review and was completely blown away by her amazingly stunning book!

I was so thrilled to be able to do an author interview with her, that I totally couldn't even sleep that night! This is my first author interview, and I am super excited about it! So now on to the interview!


I absolutely loved the plot of the story! Where did you come up with such a unique idea for your book?
Thank you so much! My original inspiration came from a non-fiction guide to picking up women. In the book, groups of guys would go out and hit on women together, using specific tactics and tricks. It was a very interesting read and got me thinking how fun it would be to write a book about a group of girls who did the same thing.

I’m actually not really sure where the rest of the idea came from to be honest! Brainstorming is a funny thing, and one minute you’re sitting there eating too many Skittles and wondering if anyone would buy a book with an edible candy cover and the next minute you have your book idea.


(Sounds like a really ineresting book, and just for the record I would totally buy a book with an edible candy cover!)

In your book Olivia tells Lucy the world is made up of heartbreakers and the heartbroken.  When you were in highschool, which category did you fall under?
Both.


If there was a Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers when you were in highschool, would you have joined?

I would have felt way too guilty to do that!


They way The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers ended, there is definitely room to do more with the story if you chose. Will there be a sequel in the future? ( please oh please!)
There will indeed a sequel and it will be out at the end of 2012. I’m currently in the process of revising it and also trying to think of a title. So if anyone has any suggestions . . .

In your book, Lucy has an amazing set of pipes. Can you sing and what are some of your favorite artist's to listen to?
I can carry a tune, but definitely don’t sing as well as Lucy. I do tend to sing a lot just while I’m walking around doing stuff, in the apartment, cooking, etc. I will pick one song and sing it constantly until my boyfriend goes crazy, and then I will pick a another one. I am currently singing the song “Walking in the Air” from The Snowman. It’s festive!

As for what I like to listen to: it totally depends on my mood but lately I’ve been putting on a lot of Florence + the Machine, Cathy Davey and Adele.


(I just discovered Florence + the Machine and I am totally addicted! )

Thank you so much!! Some of my favorite authors are: Tom Robbins, Jane Austen, J.K. Rowling, Jennifer Egan, Alice Munro and Lucy Ellmann. And my favorite novels are anything by any of them!

The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers completely blew me away! I was hooked by the first page, and got sucked in even further as I read on. I devoured the entire thing in one day and was left completely breathless.

My heart literally broke for Lucy when she was devestated by her breakup with Alex. When she wept, I wept. So can a girl blame her when she decides to use the Secret Sisterhood of Hreatbreakers to her own advantage, and win Alex's heart back forever? I couldn't!

Lynn Weingarten delivered a stunning and captivating hit with The Secret Sisterhood of Hreatbreakers! So make sure you check it our when it hits stores on December 27th. You wont' regret it! I can't wait to read more from this amazing author!

Marcie has been dragged away from home for the summer—from Idaho to a family summerhouse in New Hampshire. She’s left behind her friends, a group of freaks and geeks called the Leftovers, including her emo-rocker boyfriend, and her father.

By the time Labor Day rolls around, Marcie suspects this “summer vacation” has become permanent. She has to start at a new school, and there she leaves behind her Leftover status when a cute boy brings her breakfast and a new romance heats up. But understanding love, especially when you’ve watched your parents’ affections end, is elusive. What does it feel like, really? Can you even know it until you’ve lost it?

When I first heard about this book, I was super duper excited! My excitement for it only intensified when I learned that it is a story told in verse. Squee! I <3 stories told in verse. And just look at the super cute cover!

My love for this book only grew when I was lucky enough to recieve a copy! And then I fell head over heels in love with this book, all over again!

I love books, especially contemporary ones, that have a bit more depth to them than just your typical love story or teenage angst. That is one of the reasons why I love this book so much, besides the cute cover, and incredible writting!

Love & Leftovers is the story of Marcie who lives in Idaho with her Mom and Dad. On a trip to the supermarket with her mom, Marcie finds out her Dad is gay, when they see him at the store with his boyfriend Danny! My heart went out to Marcie, but especially her Mom. I think this is every woman's worst nightmare come true!

Marcie's mother quickly packs up and takes her daughter with her to New Hampshire. She has to leave behind her friends, the Leftovers, her guitar playing boyfriend Linus, her best friend Katie and everything she knows. Marcie feels so lonely, with her mother in an emotional coma, her boyfriends and friends hundreds of miles away. Desperate to feel love, or any human warmth for that matter, she quickly finds solice in the arms of the high school heart throb J.D. But when things get a little out of hand, and her mother finds a huge stash of condoms in her room, she packs Marcie up and ships her back to Idaho to live with her father and his boyfriend Danny.

Has Marcie finally found love? Does she still have feelings for Linus? These are all issues she must face when she moves back home. As well as coming to terms with her father and his new lifestyle!

I won't give anymore away, but I will say Marcie does find her true love! Will she choose J.D. with his Prince Harry charmingly good looks, or Linus and his emo rocker style? You'll have to read the book to find out!

Love & Leftovers was an amazing journey of the true meaning of family, friendships, true love and self discovery!

What really happened to Anastasia Romanov?

She is the only one who can save Anastasia. But, Anastasia is having her own dreams…

 On my weekly trip to the library this book caught my eye, as the YA librarian Sam's pick. I picked it up and quickly became intrigued by the idea of Anastasia Romanov, and Anne, living in alterna worlds! I have always been fascinated by the Anastasia Romanov story and quickly brought this book home to read.

Dreaming Anastasia is the story of Anne, a typical high school student who is more concerned about highschool, boys, and friends. She keeps having a strange dream over and over. In her dream, she see's Anastasia Romanav's entire family gunned down and killed in their basement! Trapped by the evil witch Baba Yaga, Anastasia is forever held captive and unable to escape.

Then suddenly attravtive, tall, dark and handsome Ethan seems to keep popping up out of nowhere, into Anne's life. But how does Ethan, and even Anne's own mother, fit into this twisted fairy tale? And what does all of this have to do with Anne? Is she destined to save Anastasia? 


I did enjoy this book very much, but wished it would have had a lot more about Russian history, culture, and of course the Romonav family themselves. Other than mentions of them here or there, there really wasn't more of that aspect woven throughout the story. I think that is what is keeping me from giving this book a 4 star rating.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book and the fairy tale twist to the Anastasia story. The main character Anne is very like able, but I do have to say, her best friend Tess stole the show!

The second book in this series came out earlier this year and I am intrested to see where Joy Preble took this story. There is so much that could be done with it, and I am anxious to find out where it leads, and of course, what Tess is up to!
